Travel News

Unfortunately, Estonia has been occupied by another country almost every century of the country's existence, making for a very tragic history of repression, discrimination and violence. The museum focuses on the occupations of Estonia by the Russian Empire, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union, periods of history that scarred Estonia. Estonia is a very small country, with only 1.3 million people, and they often operate very defensively, since their territorial integrity has been threatened so often. I also loved the museum, though, because it told the stories of Estonians that survived cruel deportations and helped build the Estonia that exists today, a very brave, innovative and efficient country!

This week, I also had the opportunity to visit a local pet shelter, where I sometimes volunteer to walk and take care of the animals lost and abandoned in Tartu.
