Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I traveled the two and a half hours between Tallinn and Tartu by bus. I also enjoyed walking along the Emajõgi river that runs through Tartu.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

On this journey so far, I have traveled extensively, possibly over 50,000 miles. Estonia is 4,362 miles from my hometown of Washington, D.C, and I traveled here in September by plane. I also returned home for the holidays for ten days to see my family. In my time in Europe, I have traveled to Belgium for a conference, and I have made many bus and train trips around Estonia to cities like Viljandi and Tallinn.

How did I get around this week?:

Tartu is a very small city, with only around 100,000 inhabitants, so it is very walkable. I walk everywhere, since I only live about 15 minutes from kesklinn (the center of town). When I travel to other parts of Estonia, I usually take the bus on a posh line called Lux Express that has movies, free coffee and tea and wifi. Sometimes, I will even use Taxify, which is an app similar to Uber or Lyft in the U.S. A.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was the Museum of Occupations and Freedom in Tallinn, the capital.
