Food in the Czech Republic!

Introduction:

Food is a defining characteristic in many cultures. This week I tried a lot of unique and varied dishes! The cool thing about the Czech Republic is not only that people eat traditional Czech food, but they also eat traditional Hungarian, Slovakian, French and Japanese food. It is amazing to see how other cultures have shaped the food scene. I like to describe Czech food as "comfort food". Czech people eat lots of bread, potatoes, dumplings, cheese, meat and pastries! There is a whole section in every grocery store just for baked goods. These baked goods are warm and fresh every day, and range from savory breads to donuts. I am so excited to share with you all what I have had so far!

What food did I try?:

This week I was introduced to a variety of different foods! I tried Lángos, which is a traditional Hungarian dish that a lot of Czechs eat. It is deep-fried flat bread that people make with yeast dough, and once it's fried, you can add cheese, ketchup and any other toppings to your liking! On the sweet side of things, Kobliha is one of my favorite pastries. It is a powdered donut with jam inside, and you can find it in every grocery store and bakery. Mak is another very loved food around here, and it is poppyseed! It is typically baked into pastries like cakes, pies, pancakes and more. It is not very sweet, and it has a nutty and rich flavor.
