This week I had a typical casado at a restaurant on the way to the beach with my class. Casado means "married" in English. This means that the foods are commonly served together, its as if they were married to each other. This dish includes a protein, like fish or chicken, rice, beans, fried plantains, some vegetables and/ or a salad.
I celebrated my birthday with my classmates at the biology research reserve, and we danced to different types of music. We danced the salsa and bachata, which are both danced in pairs. My professors turned out to be really good dancers and showed off their skills to us. They even invited me to dance with them! I could not help but burst out laughing when my professor was teaching me how to spin - it was just so fun!
One night was while I was eating dinner with my classmates the lights suddenly shut off. I was a bit surprised, and my first thought was that they had turned the lights off to make the room less hot (it gets very warm and humid on the coast). But then I looked up and I saw a cake filled with candles coming toward me - my professors had gotten me a birthday cake! It was so sweet of them and I appreciated celebrating with all of my new friends.
