Living on an Island with Sea Turtles: Conservation in Tortuguero

That means no fishing or walking on the beach between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, because that's when baby sea turtles entering the ocean.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Costa Rica is a beautiful, green country that tries hard to respect its wildlife. It's hard to believe that awhile ago people were actually selling and eating turtle eggs, rather than protecting them!

If you've ever tried to teach your grandparents how to use social media, you know that it's not easy getting adults to change their ways. People in this environment had to learn to stop fishing and hunting their wildlife and to protect it instead. I bet it's pretty scary having to stop doing what you do best, especially when it's what you do to feed your family. People of Tortuguero learned that in the long run, it is more fruitful to protect their wildlife than to harm it.
