Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled from London to Yorkshire, which is about 250 miles and takes around six hours by bus.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I think the furthest that I have traveled in my entire study abroad experience, besides the plane over from America, has been on fall break when I traveled from France to Italy. It's a 700-mile journey and took over twelve hours by train. Next time, I will definetly be flying!

How did I get around this week?:

This week I rode the bus a lot to get around. I also had to walk a little to get to the places I was going.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The shambles in Yorkshire is a real interesting place. It has quite a history. The street dates all the way back to the Medieval times. It used to be a street where all the butchers lived and worked in their shops. All of the buildings are very old and have a unique style. Back in the Medieval days, land was heavily taxed. To avoid paying more for land, people would construct their houses so that the foundation of the house took up as little room as possible, and then they would stretch out the top parts of the houses as far as possible. Because of this, the buildings almost touch at the tops. It is rumored that you could almost reach out from your top window and shake hands with the person living across from you.
