While he originally sought me out for the chance to practice his English with a native speaker, our time together quickly blossomed into a really meaningful friendship. I wouldn’t have been able to do this grant without him! He took me to get a replacement phone at a cheaper price when mine was stolen. He let me use his classroom for my students’ Thanksgiving celebration. He even lent me cash when my stipend ran out and I didn’t feel like paying the fee for taking money from an American account at a Colombian ATM. He is truly one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met. And I extend the same adoration to my students! They have taught me so much about what should be a priority when it comes to learning. They never get bogged down by grades and are always seeking the next experience to learn. They spend their one-hour lunch breaks with me just for the chance to practice their English. They commute two hours to and from school every day just to learn, and they always come with a positive attitude. I will forever be in awe of their dedication and persistence.
