An Inside Look at Daily Life for One of My Students

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 7:00 a.m. every day. On Wednesdays and Fridays, Christian finishes classes at 2:00 p.m., and the rest of the week, his day ends at 4:00 p.m. It takes 45 minutes on the bus and 15 minutes walking from the bus for Christian to get home, so he gets back around 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m., depending on the day.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Christian takes the bus and walks a bit to get to school by himself.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

There is a room at the university called Bienestar (Wellbeing) that functions as the students' lounging area for relaxation, and it's where most of them choose to eat lunch. This is where Christian eats lunch most days, and his favorite food is any kind of pasta.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

With his friends and most of his teachers, Christian speaks Spanish. With others, like his English teachers Becky, Hames and myself, he speaks in English. 

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Christian has several male classmates named "Santiago" and "Samuel." He says common girl names are "Michelle" and "Laura."

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Christian is taking six classes at ÚNICA (Institución Universitaria Colombo Americana).
