The Story of Me

Growing up, I have always wanted to explore the world. I would lose myself in my world geography textbook thinking about the different countries and cultures of the world. I went to school with people from many different backgrounds and loved learning about the foods my friends ate at home or the language they spoke with their parents. As much as I loved learning about the world, I knew my family could not afford to take fancy trips to countries I saw on TV. For most of my life, I thought the idea of going somewhere I dreamed of was just that: A dream. As hard as my parents worked, they could not afford to take vacations and I knew school trips to foreign countries were out of the question for me.

In 2016, I graduated from high school and then started taking classes at Florida State University a few weeks later. I have always wanted to go got college, but I was worried about paying for school. My brother and I are the first in our family to attend university. I was worried about adding more of a financial burden to my family. I choose the university I go to now because of the CARE program. The CARE program offers support to first-generation college students for our whole time in university (4 whole years!).

Currently, I am in my last year of university and I am excited to take on the world after I graduate! I am studying Anthropology, which is just a fancy word for the study of humans. I learn about different languages and cultures, history, and society. It is everything I love wrapped up into one. I love what I study and hope to continue studying it in graduate school. I have always wanted to travel, but Anthropology made me want to travel for different reasons.
