Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This weekend I went hiking in the hills surrounding Jaipur. The hills are part of the Aravali mountain range, the oldest mountain range on the Indian sub-continent, which is more than 2,000 million years old!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have been in India for nearly ten months now and have traveled various places for both work and leisure. I have seen the foothills of the Himalayas, walked the banks of the holy Ganges river, explored tea plantations in South India, and traveled to several historical cities in Rajasthan, the state in which I live. I have seen seen a lot of places, but India is a large country with many cultures, and even a lifetime would not be long enough to experience it all.

How did I get around this week?:

Within the city, I travel most often by motorcycle and auto-rickshaws. I also use India's well developed private and public bus systems that connect Jaipur to cities and towns near and far.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

I thoroughly enjoyed wandering in the Aravali hills this weekend. I loved the chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, watch the sunrise and get a birds-eye view of Jaipur from the hilltop.

Other Travel News from this week:

I am currently on a bus from Jaipur to New Delhi, where my campus and lab is located.
