Hello! I'm Areli Medina, a Junior pursuing an Anthropology major and Global Asian Studies minor at the University of Illinois in Chicago. As a first-generation college student, I have always dreamed of traveling outside of the United States and getting to know how others live. I was born in a small town in Mexico, and at a very young age, I travelled to Chicago, where I spent most of my time growing up. As a Mexican American, I have learned to appreciate the power of language and to be proud of my mixed cultures. During high school, I took French as a third language and became very interested in French culture. During my senior year, I had the opportunity to travel to France and Spain, where I discovered many similarities to my own Latin heritage. Ever since, I have been passionate about learning languages and cultures to better understand others and myself. My experience in Korea has been a wonderful journey, and I would like to share it with you.

I was most excited to discover the differences in college life here compared to the United States. I'm attending Yonsei University, one of the top three universities in all of Korea, which made me a bit nervous but also excited and ready for classes. Even though my classes are online, I can still experience the difference in the value of education.
