Hello everyone! Сайн байна уу? (San-ban-O means “How are you”?) My name is Monet. I am very excited to be living here in Mongolia. You may be wondering: What brought me to Mongolia in the first place?
I went to college at Arizona State University. I studied a few different subjects; anthropology, political science and Farsi. Farsi is a language spoken in Iran. Iran is a country in the Middle East. Some of the countries surrounding Iran are Turkey, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. I was interested in learning Farsi because my mother was born and raised in Iran. I spoke Farsi with my grandparents when I was little, but I really wanted to improve when I was older. I was also always interested in anthropology and political science. Anthropology is basically the study of people and cultures. Anthropology includes studying cultures, languages, biology and archaeology. Political science is the study of politics and government all around the world.
My interests in languages, anthropology and political science took me to Tajikistan in 2015. Tajikistan is a very small country between Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, China and Uzbekistan. It is a very beautiful and interesting country. I studied there in order to practice my Farsi and learn a couple of other languages: Tajiki and Russian. After living in Tajikistan, I became very interested in all of Central Asia.
