Coral reefs are essential, and without meaningful action, they remain at risk.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program in the Netherlands has given me the incredible opportunity to be here in Curaçao, studying the connection between this island's culture and its coral reefs. Fulbright is an international program that funds U.S. students to travel and foster exchange with other nations. Being the first Fulbright fellow in Curaçao is such an honor, and I hope my example will inspire more of you to explore opportunities in the Kingdom’s islands—whether it’s Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba or St. Eustatius. I urge you all to travel and visit these places when you have the opportunity, and if not that, then I encourage you to explore a new hobby (like diving)! You can get trained almost anywhere in the world, and you can even get certified at 10 years old!
It was truly a pleasure to share a piece of this trip with you all! Despite all the exciting things happening here, the highlight of my week was getting to FaceTime with you! I loved your curiosity and thoughtful questions, and I hope this experience of traveling together online inspires you to explore and appreciate the marine life near where you live. Stay in touch! And I really hope our paths cross again, maybe even as dive buddies someday!
Dushi,
Matt :)
