Becoming an Explorer

I learned about how she was doing digital archaeology in Cambodia, and at the end of the phone call, she invited me to join her research. From that moment until now, my research has focused on Cambodia, and I’ve spent the last year applying to research grants and working with Sarah to do research here.

Four years ago I had never taken an Archaeology class, two years ago I knew nothing about Cambodia, and one year ago I had never traveled to Southeast Asia before. Because I asked for help and expressed my interest in things that excite me, I was able to explore areas of the world that were new to me and find a career that brings me joy. Becoming an explorer isn’t just about exploring the world. It’s also about exploring new avenues and taking chances on things that excite you.
