I have heard mixed information about drinking tap water here, so I usually stick to buying a couple of 2-liter bottles on sale for 50 NTD ($1.5) at the local convenience store for use in my apartment.
Braised pork and radish dishes are my personal favorite for school lunch. If only this was the menu all the time...
This week I tried out some new music recommendations from friends and colleagues. My favorite local artist at the moment is Matska, who I actually first started listening to back in college and got the rare chance to see in person a couple of weeks ago while visiting my friend and fellow ETA in Taitung!
I don’t know if I can choose just one! Some of my favorite activities this week were learning, exploring nature and listening to music.
This week I took a crack at one of my school’s libraries, testing my language skills with local and international elementary books including one focusing on Taiwan’s local environment and wildlife as well as the translated versions of the Magic Tree House series, a favorite of mine growing up. I have since learned that my Chinese is only slightly better than my elementary students’ English. Along with a slightly bruised ego, I was also able to gain a newfound appreciation for school and public libraries. These can be a really great way to learn about new languages and cultures!
