Then as the tasting and tour was coming to an end, everyone’s appetite began to set in.
The restaurant wasn’t too far from the original vineyard. A vast measure of land was laid out before me greeting me with rolling grass hills and stone-built sidewalks. In the distance, I could see a dainty little restaurant in the distance. When shown to my seat, it wasn’t anything I had ever seen before. My table sat in front of large window, looking out on the breathtaking terrain.
It didn’t take long after finding my seat, for the dinner to commence. As I mentioned earlier, there are 5 courses in a traditional Italian meal, including antipasti (appetizers), primi (pasta) and secondi (meat), with contorni (sides) and dolci (desserts). The first dish brought out was cresicia flatbread with options of meat. My friends and I ate and talked. It was interesting, as we began to wonder if the servers would come back soon. It turns out that in Italy, the waiters don’t hover around as much as they do in America. It’s normal here to give guests their space and for guests to enjoy their meal uninterrupted.
A few moments later, however, servers came with the pasta, which was eaten up in seconds by the six of us seated there. Then, because there was more than enough time, a few of us stepped outside for some fresh air. While we were taking it all in, the meat showed up in a variety of pork, chicken and beef. They even brought out some vegetarian options for those who needed it.
Waiting for the sides to come, most of the class went back out to the scenic view to take photos of each other and together.
