Traveler Bio

Hæ! Hi! My name is Brittaney, and I'm currently a master's student at the University Centre of the Westfjords (UW) in Ísafjörður, Iceland. I applied for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and got accepted to go to Iceland. I arrived in August 2022 and plan to study for a year as a Fulbright Iceland Fellow in UW's Coastal Communities and Regional Development program. Before coming here, I graduated in 2019 with a bachelor's in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and worked, thereafter, for the State of Hawaiʻi in sustainability and coastal management.

I was lucky growing up with the chance to live in and visit many places—so even though I called the island of Oʻahu home for a long time, Iceland isn't my first time in a snowy place. In fact, I used to go skiing a lot as a kid, so I'm eager for the chance to ski again! Other hobbies of mine include reading, ballroom and social dance, photography, and games. There aren't many opportunities in Ísafjörður for dancing, but my friends and I like to plan movie and game nights to keep ourselves entertained as the days get darker. There are so many opportunties here for landscape photography!

Travel—taking the time to know a place and meet people—is a great way to learn new ideas and change your mindset. You don't have to go to the top of the world to do this, but I'm happy to share my journey and offer you a peek into life under the Arctic Circle. I'm excited for you to join me!
