Budapest - A City on a River

Introduction:

In the middle of Budapest, there is a giant river called the Danube River. The Danube River is the second longest river in Europe. It goes through 10 countries, including Hungary, Germany, Austria, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia, and Slovakia. The Danube River is one of the most biologically diverse river basins in the world and is home to hundreds of fish.

What makes this environment special or different?:

The environment that the Danube River creates in Budapest is special. Before bridges were able to be constructed, the river was a barrier between two cities, Buda and Pest. Once the first bridge, the chain bridge, was built in 1849, the city was connected and became more prosperous. The chain bridge, named Szechenyi Chain Bridge, is a picturesque site in Budapest. The Danube is so beautiful that it is a large tourist attraction of Budapest. My university is right on the Danube River and every day I can see many tourists taking pictures of the river and the beautiful surrounding bridges from morning to nighttime. The Danube River creates a special environment for the economy by bringing in tourism and allowing for people to be able to transport to and from the Buda and Pest sides. The Danube Banks in Budapest are a part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
