Some things in London are very similar to those in Rolesville, but transportation is not one of them! In Rolesville, and in the United States in general, we drive our cars everywhere. Imagine my shock when I got to London, and found out that almost no one even owns a car! Get ready to learn all about public transportation and how it works!
Questions to think about:
What's your favorite way to get around?
Which mode of London transportation do you think you'd like the most? Why?
Everyone in London gets around in one of three ways: bus, Tube (the British word for subway) or walking / biking. All three of these were new to me, especially walking, because places in Rolesville are spread too far apart to walk between them. In a city like London, however, everything is in tall buildings and very close together, so you can walk most places that you'd need to go. Some places, like my church, are a 20 to 30 minute walk away, but you can also ride a bike! There are rental bikes on almost every street, and bike lanes help bikers share the road with cars. Bikers in London are crazy drivers, though... watch out, or you might get hit! I actually got hit by a bicyclist today, but we're both okay, don't worry!
The bus system here is pretty easy to understand, and works very similarly to how school buses work in the U.S.
