Buses in Brazil

Introduction:

I have seen and used many kinds of transportation since I got to Brazil. For me, the easiest way to get around is to take the city bus. Does your city have buses to help people get around?

How do people get around?:

People here get around using a lot of the same types of transportation that we have in the United States. There are cars, buses and taxis. One thing that is a little different, here, is that there are many more motorcycles than I am used to seeing in the United States. Some people also ride horses through the streets! I am not qualified to drive here, and I do not have a horse, so I get around by taking buses!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I like taking the bus because I don't have to worry about driving in traffic or finding a parking spot. But taking the bus in Brazil was, in other ways, challenging, at first. Sometimes I got nervous that I might get on the wrong bus. Also, the fare (how much you have to pay to ride) for every bus is different. I have to ask the driver how much it costs and then find the money in my bag without falling over, as the bus moves out into the traffic!  People who are from here already know how much the bus rides cost and have their money ready. Another thing that is tricky is that no one announces the stops. I usually have to ask strangers to let me know when we have reached my stop.
