Calling Colombia Home

Later, we did a more difficult hike up a glacier on top of a dormant volcano, which left me freezing and gasping for air! And yet, in the same city with huge palm trees and expansive glaciers, there's also great terrain for coffee growing.

Even though I miss my folks from New York a lot, I'm starting to feel grounded in a community. Along with other people on my program, we will often go on exciting trips together! Here we are in Guatape, where there is an impressive lagune. Legend has it, in El Dorado lagoon, the indigenous Muisca tribe used to leave gold inside of it. When the Spanish and European colonizers arrived though, they couldn't find a single piece of gold! Its nice to know that family isn't too far either. Last weekend, I got to visit my cousin who is studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was great to catch up and compare our abroad experiences. Its good to know that if I start to feel really homesick, Brooklyn is just around the corner!

Its hard to believe I've already been here for two months! Despite ever-changing, fascinating environment, a strong community of friends, as well as fascinating food, culture, and art have kept me wanting more!
