From Osaka to Tokyo is a six-hour bus ride (ugh!), which is around 434 miles. That's similar to the distance from New York to West Virginia (my home state). We took a night bus, which was extremely cheap. We left Osaka around 10:00 p.m. and arrived around 6:00 a.m. after making multiple stops throughout the night.
If I only count my bigger trips (ones that require a bus or plane), I've traveled somewhere around 5,250 kilometers, or 3,262 miles! That's about the distance from the east to west coast in America!
To get to Tokyo and back we used the night bus. While in Tokyo we mainly rode on the subway. In Osaka, train fare always ends in a 0 (i.e. 250, 370, 590), but in Tokyo, train fare can end in any number, which makes things very confusing at times. I always end up with a random amount of leftover yen on my train card that I can't get rid of until I go back to Tokyo! It's a good reason to return soon.
The most interesting place I was able to go this week was the Edo-Tokyo Museum in Tokyo. The museum shows a lot of the structure of Tokyo before it was Tokyo! Prior to the Meiji Restoration in the late 19-century, Tokyo was called Edo. Japan was extremely isolated from Western influence.
