While my time in Mozambique will continue for a few more months, I'm enjoying looking back on how far I’ve come in my understanding of another way of life and on the many perspectives that I have witnessed. For example, the sense of community and family in all of Mozambique is powerful. Everyone is your brother and sister, and even a total stranger would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. I feel myself becoming more appreciative of others and more giving as time goes by because seeing generosity is such a common occurrence!
During my time here, I’ve become comfortable with my neighbors and consider many of them to be family. While I was originally a bit nervous entering a new country for the first time and didn’t know what to expect, I had many helping hands in my community guiding me every step of the way. They welcomed me into their lives, and thanks to them I’ll never look at traveling the same again.
At the same time, I've learned what it’s like to be out of your comfort zone and to feel like an alien. It can be challenging and intimidating, and sometimes you feel misunderstood, but it also gives you a great opportunity presenting to grow and to learn how to look at situations through the eyes of others.
