My curiosity is part of the reason I’m so interested in Chemistry, and is also the reason I seek opportunities to live in new places. This semester in Italy is actually not my first time living abroad; I spent three months living in Thailand last summer. While I was there, I taught English to young elementary students. Towards the end of my time there, I realized how much I was able to learn about Thai culture by settling into my life in Phichit (the town I lived in). One of my favorite small memories was trying a rambutan fruit for the first time! I had never seen one before and was so surprised when the spiky outside was hiding a yummy and sweet inside. As soon as I was home, I knew I wanted to go live somewhere new again--one thing led to another and now here I am in Milan, Italy!
School here works about the same as it does back home in the States. I have classes during the week with some tests and finals throughout the semester. I’m taking courses on Italian cuisine, history, and language. I’ll keep you updated on what I’m learning, especially when I learn about new, tasty traditional Italian dishes. If you’re already looking forward to hearing more about Italian food, you’re in luck, as I’ll be writing more next week about the food culture here in Italy!
Although I am still a student here, it doesn't mean I spend all my time studying. I work hard during the week and then travel when I’m done with classes on Thursdays. One of my goals while I’m here is to experience as many different places as I can while I’m abroad! There’s lots of quick trains all over Europe that can take you from city to city easily, so I’m taking advantage of them while I can. I’m excited to share my travels with you!
