We were staying at a beach house in Giv'at Olga. We cooked three different styles of salmon, yellow curried dahl, curried shrimp, incredibly fluffy rice, salad and more! It was the most flavorful food I have had since arriving in Israel. I enjoyed sharing the kitchen with so many of my friends and then sharing the extremely tasty food with them.
In Arabic class this week, we made fattoush salad, which is made with cucumbers, tomatoes, green onions, mint, bread, olive oil, salt and sumac. During our cooking session, we listened to a variety of Arabic songs, including "Nour el Ain" by Amr Diab, "Ghazali" by Saad Lamjarred and "Rani" by Mohammad Assaf.
Making the fattoush salad was the most fun activity this week that I had in class. It was a great way for our class to bond and connect with each other, but also to become more connected to the local Arab culture, since food is sometimes the best way to connect with a culture! Outside of class, I went rock climbing with a friends at the climbing gym in the evening last week. We all like to bring a variety of snacks to share after climbing, so it sort of becomes a workout and a potluck dinner. It is always my favorite day of the week when a big group of my friends and I decide to go climbing together!
