Growing up in a family full of educators, my life in Jacksonville, Florida was mostly centered around school and my grandmother’s day care. The majority of my day would be volunteering in the classrooms with the children. However, there was one thing I loved just as much: science! I enjoyed reading about experiments, asking several questions on whatever I could imagine, and recording observations and thoughts in many journals. I was a mini scientist but, as I was becoming older, I knew that I could most effectively help the world by maintaining good health in people through medicine. For this reason, I am now studying biology at Florida A&M University. I am looking forward to becoming a doctor one day.

After deciding on my major, I went for every opportunity possible to see what it's like to work in medicine. I volunteered at nursery homes, worked with doctors and managed health events on my campus. After meeting a surgeon, I received lessons from her that would change my life forever. She explained to me that the life of a physician is all about having such great concern for the wellness of others that you cannot sleep until you have done everything you can to treat them. I also learned that giving care to different types of people and conditions builds confident doctors and, relieves the patient. Suddenly, a light bulb switched on inside my head.
