Story Time by Me!

I asked myself, “what better way to assess care to various  people than by understanding where they come from, the language they speak, and their way of life?” This was when I knew that I must learn more languages. Since there is a large population of Latin Americans living in the United States, I wanted to start by learning Spanish. Not only that but, I needed to find a way to study and work in a medical environment at the same time.

Here in Guayaquil, Ecuador, I have had the chance to accomplish all of this at concurrently. After finding a program where I could become fluent in Spanish in only one semester, work in a local clinic and study how their society works, I had no doubt that studying abroad was suitable for me. In college, most science students do not study abroad and, often times are unsure about the actual career they want for themselves and that is why, I decided to dig a little deeper. Wouldn’t it be nice if your doctor went the extra mile to study who you are just to add comfort to your experience? Well, that is the type of physician I want to be for my patients. This is the essence of what inspired me to travel abroad and, I cannot wait to make great connections with people, while also tending to their health.

Thanks for coming along this journey with me, future travelers! One day, you may also see a need for a greater connection with various people as I have seen in myself. We will all make the world a better place!
