Travel News

In Cuenca, there was a great city of the Incas called Pumapungo. Today, this city is in ruins and it was very interesting to see the sections made for their homes, stoves, and the way they built rocks on the side of the hill to keep their crops from leaning off.

Other Travel News from this week:

The full name of Cuenca is Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos de Cuenca, which is a name that includes the city name and it reveals that the city has four important rivers or, ríos. I discovered that Cuenca means a city basin made with four rivers that come together. The four rivers are called Tomebamba, Yanuncay, Tarqui and Machangara. All of these rivers are named after important Inca emperors, or rulers. Cuenca likes to remember the ancient Incans by keeping the original names. I stopped by a store to buy a map so that I could know how to get to each river. Travelers, it is always good to have a map when traveling to new places.
