Portugal's Environment

Introduction:

Let's learn about Portugal's environment!

What makes this environment special or different?:

Portugal is known for its nature, as well as a collective desire to help care for the environment. The climate is relatively temperate, with mild winters and moderately hot summers. Most of the country is near the coast, and proximity to water helps regulate the weather while providing beautiful beaches and coastlines.  The southern part of Portugal is dry, but specialty crops like cork and grapes are supported through elaborate irrigation systems. Lisbon incorporates Portugal's natural beauty through many parks and green spaces within the capital city.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

In the city of Lisbon, the use of parks and green spaces helps make the city more livable for many Portuguese people. These beautiful areas have grass, large trees, flowers and plenty of space in which to escape the fast pace of the city for a moment. Lisbon's parks are clean, safe and well organized, and these "lungs" of the city do a good job of reminding the city-dwellers how beautiful Portugal's natural environment is.
