My first night here, my flatmates and I all went out to a restaurant nearby to get to know each other, and I ordered a super yummy noodle dish (for which I sadly can’t remember the name) that I still dream of daily. Since that time, I’ve visited one other place with a couple of friends and ordered a really great curry. I was not expecting to have Asian food in Prague, but I'm enjoying it. Beyond its traditional Czech eateries, Prague has a lot of the same restaurants and international foods as the U.S. For example, there’s an awesome Italian place nearby called Vapiano’s that has the best pasta I’ve ever had. Even if you’re not crazy about Czech food, there are definitely options!
However, I definitely can't swear off Czech food quite yet because I have so many things left to try! Some Czech pastries look absolutely delightful, but I sadly have only tried a few to date. While I don’t have any pictures, I’ve decidedly loved kolaches, a sweet pastry with a custard-cheese filling, and rohliky, crescent-shaped bread rolls. Also, if you go anywhere in the touristy part of town, you’ll find shops selling something called trdelník, or chimney cakes, doughy cones filled with ice cream and Nutella. While I’ve learned that those foods are not traditionally Czech, they’ve definitely become a staple among the Old Town. I’m still not sure if I'll like them, but I think trying them may be a rite of passage! I’ll keep you updated as I investigate.
Of course, I buy and prepare most meals in my flat, which end up being mostly egg and salad dishes, and I can attest that the fruit and veggies here taste quite nice.
