문화가 있는 날 (Culture Day)

Introduction:

Before coming to South Korea, I did not visit many museums. I learned that in Korea it is traditional for people to visit palaces and museums during the last Wednesday of each month since it is usually offered at a cheaper price or even free.

What tradition did I learn about?:

I learned that during Culture Day, many people visit the palaces that are located throughout the city. There are many palaces throughout the city, and this time gives people the opportunity to learn more about the history of their country.

During my first culture day, I visited Gyeongbokgung Palace! It's located near my school. I found it fascinating to see how well preserved it was as well as how many people were visiting it!

Why does the community have this tradition?:

Culture Day is an important tradition because it allows people to visit exhibitions, art museums and historic locations, too. It gives them the opportunity to learn more about their culture and to visit locations that are important in their history. Along with visiting traditional locations, many people also visit modern museums, which cover a wide range of topics, from electronics to music to food. It was interesting to see how many different museums are located throughout the city!
