In Greek, we greet people by saying γεια σας (geia sas, hello), and recently, we've heard kαλό μήνα (kalo mina, literally "good month"), a greeting used at the beginning of a new month to wish someone well.
I have two dogs, but I also love to feed the stray cats in my neighborhood, even if I can't call them "pets" in the proper sense of the word.
I have traveled within and beyond Europe, but my favorite place to go is Nafplio. I love the combination of architectural styles and the history in the town, and my family has spent the summers there since I was a little girl.
Note from Dalton: Nafplio, located in the Peloponnese region of Greece, is a city with a long and colorful history. It has been occupied for centuries, and it has been a trading hub for ancient Greece in antiquity, a colony of Venice in the Renaissance era, and the first capital of the modern Greek state. This diverse history explains the architectural variety Maria references, and lends a fascinating background to the city, which I have visited and loved as well.
I work as an English teacher and the administrator of the Fulbright program here, making sure that our teaching assistants are settling in and making the most of their time in Greece both profesionally and personally. Both roles are so rewarding, and it's a gift to come to work every day without feeling like I'm "working."
