Inside the Life of Alma, My Student!

What chores do you have at home?:

Alma said she helps with many household chores, including cleaning her room and washing, folding and putting away clothes. She also walks the dog, cleans the dishes and helps with vacuuming, sweeping and dusting.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Alma shared that her parents work in agriculture-related fields. One works at an olive oil production plant, and the other works in a vineyard.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Alma explained that her school day starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Alma said that she walks to school by herself because she is 15 years old. However, she says that her younger cousins, who also go to our school, have to walk with their parents because they are too young to go independently.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Alma eats lunch at home after school, like most of her peers. She said that her favorite food is paella, the traditional rice dish mentioned earlier. Paella is rice infused with saffron (a spice) and cooked with vegetables, chicken, rabbit or seafood. She especially likes having fruit for dessert afterward!

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Alma explained that she uses Spanish, English and French at school. However, most of her classes are in Spanish, and she has dedicated class times for English and French. In Spanish, her native language, “hello” is "hola."
