The Czech Republic's Farmlands and Unique Landscapes

Because eastern Germany and the Czech Republic are so close together, they share similar climates and environments, which is why I've included some photos of landscapes from my travels in Germany, too!

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

This region is an exporter of natural resources and crops. The country has significant reserves of coal, silver, uranium and raw materials used in the production of glass and ceramics. The agricultural sector produces grapes, grains, sunflowers, vegetables and livestock. The Czech livestock industry is renowned for its cattle, poultry and high-quality pork, thanks to the country's suitable climate conditions. A large portion of the region is covered in forests, which remove toxins from the air and cool the region.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

The Czech Republic has a temperate climate (like much of the continental United States). One increasingly common phenomenon in temperate regions is severe droughts. Other environmental challenges, such as soil degradation, the introduction of invasive species and extreme weather events, such as floods, especially impact farmers and ranchers. During my time here, I have not witnessed any major environmental events, but it is important to recognize the challenges people permanently living in the country face.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Czech people have adapted to their environment in multiple ways. For example, people in the region came to rely on heavy foods rich in calories to maintain enough body fat to stay warm during cold winters.
