The Inside Scoop From an Australian Teenager

Ashley wanted to tell you about her bedroom as well. It has a lot of music posters, and you can barely see the walls. She also has a TV and fake street signs! Unlike in the US, the kids say there aren't attics or basements in Sydney houses.

What chores do you have at home?:

Neither of the girls have set chores, but they help their mom with laundry, dishes, making beds and tidying the bathroom as needed. Sienna helps cook dinner most nights!

What jobs do your parents have?:

Their dad is a podiatrist and their mom, Kirsty, works in HR recruitment. Kirsty works from home, so I often hear her work calls from my room.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Sienna and Ashley go to a Catholic school, so some of the rules might be a little different than a typical Australian school. For them, school starts at 8:45am and ends at 3pm. On Thursdays, they do sports and leave school two hours early. On every other Wednesday, the teachers have professional development, so the students all have a half-day.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Usually they take the school bus in the morning, but Australian school busses are just public buses that are chartered by the schools. In the afternoon, they take regular public buses home. Sometimes, their mom drives them to school if they wake up late.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

At their school, everyone has to eat in assigned areas outside. As you may have noticed, Australian students have a lot of outdoor time! Sienna's favorite food is açaí bowls, and Ashley's favorite food is Takis.
