Meet Meryum!

What is your house like?:

My house is found in the same building as three other family houses.  Each family has its own apartment and shares the roof, where we hang our laundry to dry.  In my house there is a sitting room that we call a salon, with couches and a T.V.  There is also a kitchen, a bathroom, and two bedrooms.  We all share all of the rooms, and we often sleep on the couches after watching T.V. The floors are tiled, which makes it very cold in the winter, so we always wear slippers inside.

What chores do you have at home?:

I help my mom with the cooking and cleaning whenever she needs help. If I am not at school, I help her make all the meals, and on Sundays I help her to do the laundry and hang it up on the roof.  I also help sweep the floors and mop them if they are dirty.

What jobs do your parents have?:

My dad is retired, but he used to work in the army of Morocco.  Now he usually just spends his time visiting family or sitting with his friends in his favorite cafe.  My mom owns a store, where she works with my aunt.  They sell casual clothes, but they also have fancy dresses called kaftans that people can rent to wear to weddings or fancy parties. My aunt helps her sew the kaftans, but they don't make all of the clothes.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

My school starts at 8:30a.m. and goes until 12:30p.m., when we all go home for lunch.  After lunch we go back from 3:30p.m.
