What main languages are spoken here?:

Uganda has about 45 tribes with different languages. In Kampala, the nation's capital, they speak Luganga. But in Mbarara (the southwestern part where I live), they speak Nyankole. Despite this, English is their official language since they were colonized by the British.

 

What type of money is used here?:

The national currency is the Ugandan shilling. 

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A 1.5-liter bottle of water costs 2,000 shillings ($0.53) and a 500ml bottle of water costs 500 shillings ($0.13). 

What was the best meal this week?:

I've tried so many foods here, but the best meal I’ve had this week has been a dish of taro with pork meat. Taro is a food made with millet. 

What music did I listen to this week?:

Country music! Yes...country music. Ugandans love country music. It is played in almost every bar and restaurant. I heard songs from country stars like Dolly Parton, Don Williams, and Kenny Rogers.   

What activity was the most fun this week?:

The most fun activity I did was boat riding with some other tourists on Lake George. What made this really fun was seeing many animals along the banks of the lake. They had come to drink water.
