In Ordu, English is not widely spoken, especially in rural areas or among older generations. While English is taught in schools, many students do not have opportunities to practice speaking outside the classroom. This can make it difficult for young people to feel confident using English or to connect with international opportunities. However, some free community initiatives, such as speaking clubs, language exchanges and university-led programs, are helping to change this. These programs give people a chance to improve their English in a supportive and friendly environment.
While English is part of the school curriculum, real-life speaking practice is limited, and many people do not feel confident using the language in Ordu. This can create barriers when it comes to accessing global education, travel, or job opportunities. I also realized that although there are a few free programs trying to help, more community support is needed to make English learning accessible and engaging for everyone.
