Since Rovaniemi is in Finland, the primary language spoken here is Finnish. Even though I do not speak much Finnish, I did not really have a problem. Most Finns also speak excellent English.
As with other places in Finland, the euro is used in Rovaniemi. Most people do not carry cash or coins, though, and credit or debit cards are accepted almost everywhere.
A bottle of water usually costs around 2.00€. As always, though, I save money by filling up my water bottle from the sink!
After I finished touring the art museum, I asked one of the employees for the best place to find some food. She suggested a waffle resturant. When I walked in, I was not sure what to order. The group behind me seemed impatient, so I told them to go ahead while I figured out what I wanted. When they realized I could not read the Finnish signs, they stopped to help me out! I ended up with a waffle with lots of vegetables and a little bit of salmon on it, and my new friends invited me to join them for dinner. It was a lot more fun than eating alone!
