The Life of an Elementary Student in the Provinces

Introduction:

Kids in the Philippines enjoy many of the same things as kids in North America. They help around the house, play sports like volleyball, badminton and basketball, and they love making TikToks with trending dances and songs. Kids here often grow up in close-knit families, too. Some have many siblings and pets, especially in rural areas (referred to as “the provinces”) like my community. Read more to hear from Kate, an eleven-year-old Filipino student!

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

Whatever Mom cooks! Sometimes we have canned food, sometimes we have noodles, and sometimes we order out. I like tuna for breakfast, tuna for lunch and hot dogs for dinner. Sometimes I eat barbeque pork, pig ears and chicken intestines. For hot dogs, I like the Spicy and Cheesy from Tender Juicy, but if you eat too many Tender Juicy hotdogs, it’s bad for your health.

What is your house like?:

My house has walls with beach paintings, a red roof and yellow paint on the outside. It has a gate that is red, too, a car in the driveway and a restaurant attached. My favorite part is my bedroom because it’s cold and has “aircon” (air conditioner), and it’s not loud.

What chores do you have at home?:

None! Sometimes, I wash the dishes and clean the floors.
