Finding a Community

Aside from my family, large food portions, and Inn-N-Out Burger, my friends from college are the only things I miss about California. Honestly, leaving San Luis Obispo after three years of living with my closest friends was a little hard to do. Many of my fondest memories involve these people and it was difficult leaving knowing I only had one more year with them before we would all part ways.

When I got to Stockholm, I didn't really know anyone except one other friend who came from my university on the same program. I felt like a freshman again, wandering around campus, checking out various clubs, and attending their events... all the while trying to find new people with whom I connected well. Fortunately, as my housing accommodation was arranged by K.T.H . Royal Institute of Technology (the university where I'm studying), I was able to meet many international students who also live in the same area as me. I met my friends after an intense, campus-wide capture-the-flag event where we realized that we all had interests in sports, exploring, and eating. When we also learned that we lived in the same area, we made plans to get together for dinner. This was the first of our many "international potlucks"!

I'm a big fan of good food, to the point where I would consider food as my love language.
