At first, I was worried about walking because it can take me 20 minutes to walk to places that are further away. I used to be late a lot because I did not plan enough time for my walk. Now, I am much more used to it and I plan walking time into my day. I love walking, rather than driving, because I often see people that I know on the street too! It is nice to say "Hola!", or "Hello!"
If you plan a visit to Spain, make sure you bring your walking shoes because you will walk almost everywhere. This method of transportation is connected to the culture because walking creates a more social environment. Many times while I am walking to the grocery store, I see my students walking with their families. I run into my friends on the street, too! Many people walk, or take public transportation because the cost of gasoline is so expensive. That means it is less common to own a car. It is much better for the environment to walk!
