The cultural program promotes understanding and appreciation of diverse identities, and the digital literacy program helps participants become responsible technology users. Through these programs, learners apply civic values in practical ways and develop global citizenship.
Through my work as a strategic alliance specialist, where I find and maintain partnerships for these programs to run, I have realized that global competency is essential for careers today. Professionals must understand different cultures, communicate effectively and collaborate across borders. My colleagues and I discuss how education, sustainability and inclusion can be promoted through projects that integrate the SDGs. These experiences have shown me that global competency is not only a professional skill but also a mindset, one that shapes responsible, empathetic citizens and future leaders.
Mexico City reflects this blend of local and global perspectives. Many young professionals are bilingual or multilingual, navigating Mexican traditions while engaging in international collaborations. Within my organization, I work with teams from Ecuador, Argentina and the United States, demonstrating the global collaboration needed to achieve the SDGs.
As I continue my journey here, I realize that sustainable development depends not only on policies or statistics but also on people. My role relies on connecting with individuals from different cultures, understanding their needs and communicating across boundaries to maintain relationships with the organization’s partners. Progress begins with connection, understanding the world beyond one’s own borders and building bridges through shared goals.
