Peru is a country rich in traditions that reflect its history, environment, and diverse cultures. One of the most joyful and widely celebrated traditions is Carnaval, a festival that takes place each February. While it may seem like pure fun at first glance — full of water fights, dancing, and music — Carnaval has deep cultural and environmental significance that continues to unite communities across the country.
I learned about Carnaval, a festive and traditional celebration held every year in February. Each region of Peru celebrates it in a unique way, but common elements include live music, traditional dances, colorful costumes, water games, and a communal spirit. One popular activity is the yunza, where people dance around a decorated tree and take turns chopping it down.
