Growing Up in Senegal

Introduction:

Hello everyone, my name is Edu and I am from Senegal! I am 14 years old and I am going to tell you about what my life looks like. I live in Thies, but I  was born in Mboro. I moved to Thies 3 years ago for school.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast my mom makes me Kinkeliba, which is a type of tea with milk. I also eat bread with chocolate, butter, or mayonnaise. For lunch, I go home because we have a break from school. There are a lot of foods that I eat for lunch, like Thiebudienne or Supa Kanja, which is rice, okra, fish, and spices. For dinner, we usually eat a lot of Senegalese dishes. Sometimes we would have foreign meals, like spaghetti.

What is your house like?:

I lived in Cite 2000 which is a workers' city. All of the houses look the same. They are one floor so there is no upstairs, but they do have a courtyard at the back. There are walls to help separate the rooms from the courtyards. Houses in Senegal can be very open and sometimes you have to walk outside through the courtyard to get from one room to another.

What chores do you have at home?:

Growing up, I have had to walk to our community where my mom kept pigs. I had to bring them food and give them water.
