Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I really did not travel much, mostly just going back and forth between my apartment, rowing and my lab. Sometimes the unfortunate reality of working abroad is that you have to work!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

So far, I have traveled to Alcala de Henares for orientation, then to Seville, to Cadiz, to Malaga and to Madrid. In the next few months, I am planning on traveling out of the country more with trips to Scotland, Portugal and Italy.

How did I get around this week?:

There is a pretty serious lack of effective public transit in Seville, mostly because the old streets in the city center are too small for most vehicles. As a result, pretty much everyone, myself included, walks just about everywhere. There is a pretty good bike share system (sort of like CitiBike, but cheaper and with better infrastructure), and I recently got a subscription for that, so I also biked a bit. The university to which my lab belongs is technically outside the city, so I take the metro to get to campus and then walk from the station to the lab.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

On Saturday, I went to a pop-up art and music fair that was really cool! I bought myself a pair of earrings from a local vendor, and it was really generally interesting to see all of the local shops.
