The National Health Service (NHS)

Introduction:

One of the biggest problems people face today is access to affordable and reliable health care. In the U.K., they've solved this issue by implementing the National Health Service. This gives everyone access to health care so that no one goes without care.

What community need did I learn about?:

The community need for health care is what I learned about. The National Health Service (NHS) helps solve that issue by setting standards for General Practitioners (GPs aka a family doctor) so that proper care is always given. It also set standards for the health of its citizens to ensure everyone receives vaccines on time, has an appointment if they're ill and helps citizens be more aware of their own health.

Why does the community have this need?:

The community had the need for the NHS because there was no standard for doctors to abide by and people were choosing to not go to the doctor or GP because it was too expensive. This caused issues later on when they would end up having an advanced illness or disease and would end up suffering when they could have gotten better. This also made caring for them more expensive for their family and for the government as well. By using the NHS, more diseases are being prevented or stopped in early stages at little to no cost to U.K. citizens.
