Le Commandant Charcot has several professional musicians on staff, and they play every day. They are amazing! They can play anything. Have you seen The Lion King? During the festive brunch, the violinist played “The Circle of Life.” It was incredible.
Today, we finally could safely disembark from, or get off of, the ship. The Captain navigated the ship into the fast ice, which is a type of permanent ice that connects the shore to the sea. He drove the ship hard into this ice, making a kind of dock-like connection that is secure for guests to go on and off.
First, the staff had to set up a perimeter, or boundary area with limits. Why? Because we can see SEVEN polar bears just from the ship. There is even a cub! Members of the expedition team are guarding this perimeter. They have rifles in case any bears come close. However, don’t worry. Nothing will happen to the bears - or, to the people.
This week, I read a book called "Never Enough" by Jennifer Wallace. It is a book about how much pressure society puts on kids these days.
This week, I did not play any games. I did swim in the pool on board the ship, which is very interesting because the water sloshes all around as the ship rocks in the waves!
The stormy weather and thick sea ice meant that the Captain had to change the ship’s itinerary multiple times this week. We will not get to do some of the activities that had been planned for us, after all. Mother Nature had other plans!
