Several times we broke fast together at the local mosque and each time I was welcomed with open arms even though I am not Muslim.
The food in Malaysia is phenomenal! I eat a lot of rice and chicken, my personal favorite. The food in Malaysia is similar to food I would eat at home. My parents were born in Haiti, an island in the Caribbean, where people also eat a lot of rice, fish and other meats. One thing I am getting used to, though, is the local breakfast food. Back in the U.S., a typical breakfast for me included scrambled eggs, pancakes or waffles, or even some cereal. But here in Malaysia, people eat a big plate of rice and chicken for breakfast! Sometimes I eat rice three times a day!
From a young age, my mom taught me the importance of travel and appreciating different cultures. My family and I have traveled all around the world, including through most of the Caribbean (Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas and many other countries) and to parts of Europe (Spain, France, England and Italy). I’ve learned so much from traveling and hope you can learn some things from my experiences in Malaysia. I can't wait to tell you all about Malaysia and to share my adventures this year. Jumpa lagi (see you soon)!
