Both were so yummy!
PS.
I know you guys were curious about eating puffer fish (which is called Fugu in Japanese), but unfortunately, I haven't been able to eat that since I got here. In order to eat it, whoever prepares it must have a certificate to make sure they know which parts can be eaten, or else they could serve the poisonous part. If you eat the poisonous part, you could get really sick or even die!
When I tried the different types of fish in the sushi plate, sometimes I was a little bit nervous. Some of the textures and tastes were new to me, so I didn’t know what to expect. The salmon eggs were a bit slippery and salty, the sea urchin was creamy and tasted like the sea, and the clam mainly just had a tender, bouncy texture. I am so happy I tried it all because I ended up really enjoying it all.
The fish balls in the soup were soft and squishy and had soaked up the flavor of the broth and other ingredients, so they tasted really good. I ate that soup on an especially cold night and felt that it was heating me up from the inside out!
The sushi is made using a small amount of cooked rice that is placed underneath the seafood. All of the seafood (salmon eggs, sea urchin, clam and fish) are all raw! Because the seafood is raw, it has to be super fresh in order to taste good and be safe to eat. When you eat the sushi, you dip it into soy sauce and smear a little bit of wasabi paste onto it.
